It’s 2025! Right off the bat, that’s startling – halfway through the decade. New years day already makes me acutely aware of the passing of time anyway, so it’s a bit of a one-two punch.
I’m also feeling grateful; 2024 was a good year for me personally and professionally. I moved to Bristol, holidayed in Venice, played plenty of gigs, wrote some things, recorded and released a song or two… still, in stereotypically creative fashion I can’t help but focus on improving, and doing more.
Twelve Twelve’s is an idea I’ve been thinking about. Twelve (minimum) iterations of twelve things over the year. The number’s arbritary of course, but there are twelve months. And there are twelve days of Christmas. So why not? They are as follows:
• Write & release 12 songs
• Record & release 12 videos
• Share/post on social media 12 times a month
• Learn 12 songs
• Play 12 new venues
• Write 12 blog posts
and…
• Watch 12 new movies
• Finish 12 video games
• Listen to 12 new albums
• Read 12 books
• Cook/make 12 new meals
• Visit 12 new places
Professional and personal goals, respectively. Very important to have both; I get so wrapped up in my career that I forget to do the other things I enjoy. So it’s nice to have it down in writing. I like putting numbers/totals to things too, otherwise everything feels infinitely long, unassailable.
Not much more to it than that! I’m keen to create more, share more, experience new things. All very achievable stuff. It’s not an exhaustive list; not all my goals fit the system (making twelve albums seems a little unnecessary, for example) but it covers a lot of ground, and I’m excited to get on with it.
I just realised this is 1 of my 12 blogs. And it’ll be a social media post too – double whammy! Nice.
Hope you all have a wonderful start to your 2025.
